William was married with one child when he enlisted. He was 6' 0" tall with gray eyes, dark hair, and dark complexion.

He initially joined the militia, but then joined the cavalry at Berryville on 24 September 1862. Between 01 January 1864 until at least 31 October 1864, he was assigned as a blacksmith for his company.

After the Confederate surrender, he was paroled on 17 April 1865 at Winchester, Virginia.

William married Irena L. Clement in Hill County, Texas on 07 Dec 1878. His name was misspelled as Galladay.

William died on 01 January 1917.
