George married Esther H. Powers on 09 March 1859 at Maquon, Illinois.

He was 24 years old and living in Salem, Illinois when he enlisted on 10 August 1862 at Uniontown. He mustered in on 21 August 1862 at Monmouth. George was listed as 5' 8 1/2" in height with fair complexion, hazel eyes, and brown hair. He was born in Franklin County, Ohio.

He mustered out on 26 June 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee

On 25 November 1869, George was threshing grain and got his left arm caught in the threshing machine. His arm had to be amputated at the elbow. The 1870 census shows that George was employed as a constable in Maquon.

George filed for a disability pension on 27 June 1890 stating the loss of his arm. He died in Yates City on 31 March 1899.
